ancestors of the
winery's current owner founded Kindschi Söhne
AG in 1860, which is greatly steeped
in the region's tradition of family owned businesses, and ultimately in the culture of Davos.
In the old days, wine was transported through the mountains using well worn
alpine trade routes from the Veltlin region using horses. The Kindschi's
coined the saying "Guot Ross, Guot Wyn", or "Good Horse, Good Wine" which was
part of the winery's logo for many years, and the horse with wine casks remains
on the logo to this day. It was during those early years that house
specialties were created, such as Röteli, which is one of the most popular
Christmas beverages in the whole of Switzerland. Those family specialties are still manufactured today
in on-site distilleries by using original recipes which remain secret.
